Vodacom, the South African mobile operator, has announced that it will implement price adjustments for its postpaid and fibre packages in 2024, affecting plans such as RED and Flexi.
The company disclosed in a news release on Friday, February 23, that the average increase across various plans will be 4.6%, and these changes will take effect on April 1, 2024. Vodacom attributes the adjustments to factors such as investments in network resilience maintenance, increased operational costs due to issues like base station vandalism and battery theft, as well as challenges like load shedding, currency weakness, and rising inflation.
Specifically, postpaid tariffs, recurring and once-off bundles are set to experience an average increase of 8% in May, while fibre customers will see a 5% average increase on selected fibre plans.
To mitigate the impact on customers, Vodacom has chosen to keep insurance premiums, hardware and device costs, value-added services (VAS), and out-of-bundle (OOB) rates unchanged. Additionally, customers on selected RED Integrated and RED VIP plans will receive up to 11% extra data, and Flexi plan customers will continue to enjoy additional airtime.
